Supporting Ukraine

We are grateful to everyone who has been in touch to express their concern at the situation in Ukraine and asked how they can support those forced to flee their homes. We have a number of suggestions:

  1. Make a cash donation to Bristol Refugee Rights, so we are ready to help asylum seekers arriving in our city.
  2. Make a cash donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), as the UK government will match your donation.  Donations go to humanitarian relief charities who are responding to the crisis on the ground in Ukraine and in neighbouring countries.
  3. The UK Government is currently trying to pass anti-refugee legislation, the flawed Nationality & Borders Bill. The current fast-moving crisis underlines the fact that many people caught in conflict cannot simply wait months or even years for visas or other official paperwork, but the Bill would treat such people forced to make dangerous journeys to safety as criminals. Contact your MP to request the Bill be stopped. It contravenes international law, the UN Refugee Convention and Convention on Human Rights, all of which the UK is signed up to. For more information, follow Refugee Action who are campaigning on this matter.
  4. If you have items to donate rather than cash, check with the charity you are donating to that items are still required. We know that organisations can quickly become overwhelmed with donations such as clothes. BRR does not accept clothing or other items.

Thank you for your support.
